Jim Huber addresses Town Council on tax hike
April 12, 2005
My name is Jim Huber, I live at 704 Donaldson Lane.
I am here to add my voice to the opposition of this unfair tax increase.
Last year when I went door-to-door, I heard from people telling me they are being taxed out of Leesburg - people who've been here over 30 years. It's sad and it's wrong.
A year later, with the latest assesments, taxes are going to go up another 24%. It's just getting worse.
From a personal standpoint, I became the father of two babies six months ago - one boy and one girl - and even my family is feeling the same pinch. We love it here in Leesburg, and hope to spend many years here.
Additionally, the Town talks about wanting to be business friendly. It will never be business friendly if it taxes away the business consumers' disposable income.
I understand this town has its expenses and needs, but I would like the Council to consider the needs of the taxpayer and, for once, not the tax spenders.
In conclusion, I ask you to vote against this tax increase. Thank you.
