Jim announces his candidacy for Leesburg Town Council

February 18, 2004

They Say "You Can't Fight City Hall", But Jim Huber Will Fight Expanding It

Leesburg - Today, local business owner and cartoonist, Jim Huber, announced his intention to run for Leesburg Town Council.

"I'm running because the Town Government has gotten too big. Instead of tightening its belt, our Town Council wants to give it more room to grow," Huber said, referring to the plans to expand the Town Hall.

In his statement Huber blamed many of Leesburg's problems on the excessive bureaucracy in the Town Hall. "We are overtaxed and overregulated and it is strangling the businesses and homeowners of Leesburg," Huber stated.

"High taxes and red tape are driving away businesses, shifting the tax burden to Leesburg's families. We need a government that is business friendly in order to be taxpayer friendly, and the Town Council has been AWOL," Huber added.

He declared his commitment to public safety, "My father was a New York City cop - I respect the police for the difficult job they are expected to do. We need to make sure they are prepared to tackle the looming gang problem in Leesburg before its too late."

He asserted that improving traffic was also a big priority. "With the number of accidents at intersections like Sycolin Road and Leesburg Bypass, our roads aren't just inconvenient; they're dangerous. An interchange at that intersection and completing Battlefield Parkway will be important steps to solving our traffic problems."

A graduate of University of Buffalo, Huber earned his Bachelors of Science in Computer Science. He is a web developer for his own Leesburg-based web development company, and is an accomplished political cartoonist. He is a member of the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce. Huber is also an active member of St. John's Catholic Church. He and his wife, Sue, recently celebrated their first wedding anniversary. They currently reside in Southwest Leesburg.
